Transportation Happenings – September 25, 2017

The following “Transportation Happenings” occurred during the past week that you may find of interest.
1. I am attaching two articles that you and your Owner-Operators should find to be of interest. The first article concerns a discussion of the new truck motor oils and their effects on certain models of trucks. The second artcle concerns six tire issues that can adversely affect an O/O’s CSA Score and that of the Terminal
2.MSC has announced they are ordering eleven 22,000 TEU container ships.
3. The West Coast reported that imports over its Ports were up 99,000 + TEUS during July 2017 but, exports were down 12,500+ TEUS.
4. Due to recent Hurricanes all Ports in Puerto Rico are closed and the Port of Corpus Christi, Texas is operating on a restricted basis.
5. FEDEX is having all sorts of problems in its attempt to establish service to Cuba. I am sure the “cooling” of relations since January of this year is quite probably the main cause.
6. As previously reported, the FMC is closely watching the mergers and alliances of container carriers. Attached are comments on his recent meeting in London.
