Retailer and Ship Line Responses to New Tariffs Between US and China

There were not many “Transportation Happenings” during the past week but here are a few for the week ending November 2nd, 2018:

  1. Several new higher tariffs will go into effect on January 1, 2019.  Many retailers In the U.S. are taking notice and are doubling up on their orders before year end.
  2. To accommodate this increased volume Maersk Line is re-deploying two of its larger ships in to the far east/west coast U. S. service. As an aside to this, we must remember that many of these customers may not have warehousing to take in these goods on arrival and plan to use the containers as storage.  Be sure to closely watch per diem and demurrage.
  3. Maersk has launched an instant booking confirmation ability.
